Blanket statement. Most URM medical students are not from poor upbringings... they are largely from affluent backgrounds, like most of their ORM classmates. If medical schools truly want students to work in poor or underserved areas, they should look for students who grew up in these areas - regardless of race. I mean, whites aren't really over-represented. They're just represented. Asians, meanwhile, are definitely over-represented, making up < 5% of the population, but 20% of med school graduates. So, ORM can really only mean Asian technically speaking. A good way to see is check if your GPA is >10th percentile at competitive schools. If your GPA is >3.0 then you’re good for any DO with a truly high MCAT. I know someone with a 3.3 and 513 got 10+ interviews and 3 acceptances it’s possible !
