Someone messed up. And it wasn't considered enough of an issue to junk the barrel. It is a cosmetic defect only, and serves to make your 336 distinctive. There is no functional problem. The JM stamp was put on last, as it is where it's supposed to be. Incidentally, that JM stamp is one of the clearest ones I've seen.
