Hornady still had it on the wall poster I got a month or so ago so maybe this is just a Midway thing. In order to generate near 308 Win ballistics, the 308 Marlin Express brass at thicker at the base to safely handle the high pressures. I don't know if anyone other than Hornady makes ammo for it. Handloading for it could be tricky if brass production is discontinued.The result was the .308 Marlin Express cartridge.
