The cause: about 100K miles prior, 5th gear had come off. The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. This has been happening to me for months. They changed the valve body and still not fixed. 28000 miles on my Limited and it locks in 3rd or slams hard into 4th. I have to shut off the truck and restart. Still happens almost every time it goes from 3rd to 4th. Now it is having a hard time going into reverse.

I am not hard on the truck and changed the fluid and filters at 100k. It doesnt make any attempt to move in drive, but also doesnt make any noises. The ECM might need to see itself out of limp mode, which would mean connecting the missing parts back on for it to see them to pop out of limp mode, and be tuned.
