They figured out they can get away with telling customers that consuming 1 quart of oil per 1-2000 miles is "normal." If you search, you'll find that line used by nearly every manufacturer these days.

First is break-in with not so high revs/full throttle. Second is more high revs/full throttle. Third is probably how most of my riding will be normally. With a bomb tested Japanese motor out of the box (like the Grom) there's not too much to worry about under any reasonable scenario. However, in terms of just the motor, variable speed for the first 300 miles (the break-in period in the manual) is a safe bet.
