May 26, 2022 · S&W 686-0 grip dilemma. I love to shoot my 686-0, sweet trigger, accurate to the 9's. My dilemma is the stock wood grips. They are great looking but as shown in pix my right thumb does not conform to the grip causing some discomfort. I like the wood look, nothing against Hoague grips. From the way the grips look and feel, K/L and N frames are very close in size and fit. The N frame is more solidly built elsewhere for magnum calibers. Therefore, the larger magnum calibers are generally N Frame. The best way tell the difference between K and N is the model numbers.
