This is accentuated if the van is parked on an incline like a driveway. The jerkiness occurs more when closing and a couple times have stopped and reversed.

You had to assist manually to get it to close completely. Now, the door will not open automatically or manually. When trying manually, it will not unlock at all.Normal battery drain actually depends. You have to let the vehicle sit for at least 30 minutes with everything off, doors closed, etc. Then check the draw. Most cars should be 50mA or less. If you check before waiting 30 minutes you may see draw from computers that are doing things after the engine is shut off.
